In the winter semester of academic year 2024/2025, the University of Žilina is organising a Digital Transition HUB Multidisciplinary Training on Digital Transformation for Inclusive, Sustainable and Resilient Cities.
Throughout the semester, 10 students will work on practical projects under the guidance of lecturers from the Faculty of Management and Informatics of the University of Žilina and industry partners.
Within the Winter School, the students will implement three hands-on projects:
- Data Analysis and Predictions for Public Transport Using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Methods.
- Objectives
- Creating and evaluating predictive models for public transport data supplemented with external data sources using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Developing models based on various scenarios and problems and assessing the suitability and accuracy of these models.
- Deploying the proposed methots into real-world environments.

- Objectives
- Design of a Design of a Sensor Network for Real-Time Traffic Counting in the City of Žilina.
- Objectives:
- Identifying the most suitable sensor locations.
- Developing communication architecture and selecting communication protocols, data rates and frequency of communication.
- Calculating the estimated energy consumption, annual data usage and the cost of communication.
- Creating the technical specification of the system and documentation.

- Objectives:
- Design of an Intelligent Network Architecture for Educational, Research, and Management Processes.
- Objectives:
- Analysing the state of the art and defining the functional requirements.
- Designing the network architecture according to the ISO/IEC/IEEE 420 10:2011 standard.
- Procuring the necessary IoT components and hardware and implementing the network design.
- Promoting the use of new technologies in research and education by developing practical demos.

- Objectives:
Within this blended multidisciplinary training, online courses are combined with face-to-face sessions in which students consult the preliminary results with their tutors. The Winter School will unfold with a two-day onsite workshop at the University of Žilina, which will be held on December 10th and 11th, 2024. At the workshop, students will present the results of their projects, exchange knowledge and participate in co-creation activities with invited representatives from higher education institutions, industry partners, and InCITIES associated partners. Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded 5 ECTS.
