Iscte Promotes European Values and Active Citizenship at the 2nd International Staff Week

From 7 to 11 July 2025, Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon hosted the second edition of its International Staff Week, welcoming 16 colleagues from partner universities in Germany, Spain, France, Finland, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. This year’s theme, “Promote EU Values and Active Citizenship in a Challenging World,” brought together higher education professionals to reflect on and strengthen their commitment to the core values of the European Union, including democracy, human rights, equality, diversity, and sustainability.

The opening session was marked by the presence of Professor Maria das Dores Guerreiro, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation at Iscte, who underlined the vital role that higher education institutions play in safeguarding European values and nurturing engaged and informed citizens.

This international initiative is part of the PIONEER Alliance and is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme, which continues to be a driving force in promoting active citizenship, international collaboration, and the exchange of best practices across Europe’s higher education landscape.

The programme officially began with a virtual pre-session on 2 July and concluded on 11 July with a closing session dedicated to collective reflection and the sharing of insights and recommendations from the week.

By fostering dialogue and connection between European institutions, Iscte’s International Staff Week continues to contribute to a stronger, more cohesive, and values-driven European Higher Education Area.
