These reflections shed light on the realities of modern learning environments and the importance of fostering a sense of belonging.
Diverse Minds, Shared Goals – Why Diverse Learning Environments Matter
As awareness grows about the complexities of the human brain, students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in higher education are finding increased support to help them navigate academic challenges. This blog by Terhi Kylliäinen, Noora Nikula, Anna-Elina Sirkka, and Siiri Vatanen explores how diverse learning environments can be structured to accommodate different needs, ensuring equal opportunities for success.
Three Stories and a Few More About Lack of Belonging as an Online Student
In today’s digital era, students are more connected than ever, but this doesn’t always translate to a strong sense of belonging. Studying online offers flexibility, enabling students to balance work, family, and education. However, it also presents challenges in forming meaningful connections. This blog reflects on personal stories and experiences of online students who have faced difficulties in building a sense of community.
A Sense of Belonging – Does Age Really Matter?
Online learning environments bring together students from diverse backgrounds, including different age groups. In Laurea University of Applied Sciences’ online programs, students are randomly assigned to small groups to encourage interaction and peer support. This method, as discussed by Laura Jokela, Michael Järvinen, Emma Lindroos, Saana Mannerhovi, and Katri Sulin, aims to create a strong sense of community despite initial apprehensions about working with strangers.
These student-authored blogs highlight the importance of inclusive learning spaces and the shared efforts needed to create a more connected academic environment. We invite you to explore these perspectives and engage with the ongoing dialogue about diversity, belonging, and educational innovation.
