Reducing Inequalities is ISCTE’s greatest contribution in the ranking of the 600 best universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. The ranking assesses the actions of higher education institutions in relation to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2023, more than 1,500 universities from 112 countries took part, including 15 Portuguese universities. ISCTE maintained its national and international position. Of particular note is its contribution to SDG 10 – Reducing Inequalities, in which ISCTE has the best result among Portuguese universities and is in the top 100 of all participating universities. This is an area of research and teaching specialisation at ISCTE and a central concern of the institution, particularly in the integration of students from countries with fewer economic resources, elements that are taken into account in the performance of universities. ISCTE presented evidence for ten SDGs and obtained good results, particularly in SDG 10 – Reducing Inequalities, SDG 5 – Gender Equality, SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Implementation of the Goals. You can find information on these and other rankings on ISCTE’s website.
ISCTE’s institutional commitment to sustainability continues, most recently with investment in energy efficiency on campus. In May 2023, ISCTE’s application to the Environmental Fund (PRR) was approved, with a major intervention project that will reduce energy and water consumption and, consequently, CO2 emissions. In November 2023, the new ISCTE – Knowledge and Innovation building was inaugurated, rehabilitated according to the principles of reusing materials, energy efficiency and integration into the community.
